“I don’t know how to stop, but I want it to…”
What’s good, gang? Hope you enjoyed the Easter festivities, in whatever capacity you chose to partake in them. Keeping with the theme – at least slightly – I wanted to share with you some sugary garage-pop sweetnees from Palms, the “new” project for former Red Riders dudes Alex Grigg and Tom Wallace. It’s been a timely effort on their behalf, but they have just finished recording their debut LP and are slanting it for a June release, distributor pending. This is all dreadfully exciting stuff – I’ve been a fan of these guys since they dropped Tune In, Tune Out as RR wayyyy back in the mid-2000s; and I’m really keen to see what they do with this rawer, looser and twangier sound for an entire album.
In the interim, we’re set to enjoy Love, the album’s first official single. To go with the lo-fi sound on offer, the Palms boys have given us a charmingly low-budget clip. Actually, it’s an incredible contrast – it’s clear that this is mostly a DIY affair, and yet they managed to get in some pretty huge celebrity names like Barack Obama, Bill Murray and the late, great Freddie Mercury! Isn’t that spectacular? Aside from that, I’m loving the cardboard instruments (Tom’s drumkit is a winner!) and the psychedelic colours that have washed over the whole thing. It’s all a bit ridiculous, and that’s exactly why I love it! Roll on, Palms. Let’s get this record a-happenin’!
