His favourite video is Hurdy Gurdy Man by the Butthole Surfers.
This is one of my earliest ever memories of watching Rage late at night. This clip terrified and fascinated me. The song itself has a very magical, almost carnival chord sequence, which is well suited to this random array of lo-fi nonsense. I hadn’t watched this video in years, but thanks to YouTube I was reminded of classics such as the ‘dancing toilet’ and ‘foamy apple juice.’ I always enjoyed the randomness of it and the ramshackle aesthetic which wasn’t in videos by Madonna or MC Hammer. It’s dated well – there’s a crappy but loveable embracing of chaos that, as any watching of Friday night Rage will tell you, is as far from the mindset of today’s bands as you can get. I think the burning angry apple face man is one of the most haunting images you will ever see.
