“I close my eyes, and I dream about changing…”
The gorgeous Sally Seltmann is better known as New Buffalo to most, but she’s just begun to emerge from the moniker’s shadow, as it were, and begin releasing music under her own name. Her new album is entitled Heart That’s Pounding, and this is the sweet video for the latest single. It starts off politely enough, with Seltmann singing in the backseat of her car, until an oddly-shaped egg appears sitting next to her that she treats affectionately. This egg is later ripped open and thrown into the ocean after being stolen by children dressed in grass camoflauge. No, that’s not the after-effect of the weed you smoked earlier – you did just read that, and that shit seriously goes down in the video.
It’s gorgeous to look at – Hell, all Seltmann needs to do is smile at the camera and I’ll call video of the year. There’s a lot going on here, though, and I’m in two minds about what the imagery could possibly mean. One YouTube user suggests it’s about either abortion or a miscarriage. One can see where they’d get the idea, but Seltmann recently became a mother successfully. Why would she present a plotline of abortion? Perhaps it’s simply an askew take on motherhood, or maybe director Krozm has just gone for pure quirkiness. Whatever the case, it’s definitely one of the coolest videos I’ve seen this year and I can’t wait to see her in a few weeks time – with or without the weird egg.
